Miracles

I know, I've completely abandoned this blog. I've had a really rough summer since the morning sickness set it. We've also had collapsed ceilings, broken coolers, kids starting school, broken computers, and I've been really, really tired. I won't promise that posting here or on my other blogs will resume, but I couldn't miss today.

This past year has been discouraging for all Americans. We've watched a lot of political unrest. Even in you agree with the destruction of the principles of this country's founding, it's impossible not to see the rift between different thinking Americans is growing. We truly are becoming less united.

That's why I have decided to talk about something completely different of this anniversary of 9/11. The political landscape is a mess, but the people of this great country are strong. I saw this video a couple days ago and was definitely moved by it. My message to you today is simple: Sometimes free agency gives us immense pain. Because people have been given this great gift by our creator, it is often used to hurt others. But, despite his insistence on letting us remain free, the hand of God is still evident in our lives if we choose to look for it. I BELIEVE IN MIRACLES.

Happy Memorial Day

I am sorry this post is late. I did sit down with my children on Monday and discuss the reason we celebrate Memorial Day. They understand that we should honor the men and women and their families who have sacrificed everything for this amazing country. I wanted to share with you the message that those heroes live on.

Time for a Laugh

Sometimes journalists just make my day. Sometimes, it's the anonymous commenters who say it better than the professional writers. Today I want to share something that made me smile.

I was reading an article about President Obama's getting furious with his aides over news of the oil spill. According to The Washington Post:

"Since the oil rig exploded, the White House has tried to project a posture that is unflappable and in command.

"But to those tasked with keeping the president apprised of the disaster, Obama's clenched jaw is becoming an increasingly familiar sight. During one of those sessions in the Oval Office the first week after the spill, a president who rarely vents his frustration cut his aides short, according to one who was there.

"'Plug the damn hole,' Obama told them."

But, that's not what amused me. I was glad I had read the article just because of the first reader comment which mused, "I bet the CEO of BP just slapped himself on the forehead and said, why didn't i think of that???"

The Beginning of the End

"The trend is not sustainable, says University of Michigan economist Donald Grimes. Reason: The federal government depends on private wages to generate income taxes to pay for its ever-more-expensive programs. Government-generated income is taxed at lower rates or not at all, he says. 'This is really important,' Grimes says."

This quote is from a USAToday article about how private income has shrunk to all-time lows and government handouts have reached record levels. As I pointed out in my last post, our way of life is being destroyed.

What the people who argue for these government programs don't realize is that the wealthy give money to the poor. They do it through creating jobs, either directly, or by creating demand for the work that the rest of us do. When you demonize wealth and demand that the government redistribute it, you destroy the expansion of the economy.

As Margaret Thatcher pointed out, "The trouble with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money."

Christie for President

Every time the federal government has passed a tax increase on the "wealthy" government revenue has GONE DOWN. This is because sucking the money that could have been used for investment, job creation and other expansions of the economy out of the private sector and stuffing it into the black hole of government does not help anyone. What was President Obama's response to this fact? "redistribution as a matter of fairness." In other words, these taxes are to make everyone poor, so no one is better than anyone else, regardless of how hard they work. You can read more on that here.

The question is, do they not realize that by stealing money from the private sector, they are also hurting the poor? I don't think they care.

The Great Lie of Healthcare

I've told you before that this entire premise of insuring the uninsured to lower healthcare costs is a lie. My own congressman sent me a letter telling me that the uninsured don't get primary care and then end up in the emergency room. This costs us all tons of money. Having a husband in the major emergency room, the one the congressman cited, I knew this for the lie it was. He is constantly bombarded by demanding, entitled patients who don't care what their visit costs because they are insured, usually with medicaid. But, I don't believe in using anecdotal evidence to argue in favor of universal positions. That's why I always seek to find studies and evidence. I have pointed out in the past that when Massachusetts universalized coverage, ER visits went up.

Today, I have an even more telling study. Do the uninsured go to the Emergency Room more than those of us with insurance?

What else did the study find? Those with government insurance are much more likely to have multiple ER visits in a year than those with private insurance. You mean that those of us responsible for ourselves don't go to the ER for non-emergencies? That's so odd. Who would have ever considered that old fashioned accountability would matter. Well, who, besides those of use still independent and responsible? Take heart! There are some of us left. (Well, actually right-but we're here)

So what's going to end up happening here? More people, the same doctors. Well, at least we have job security. This might not be so comforting to those of you that don't have a doctor in your home. We have recently been told by the CBO that this health care law will cost much more than originally stated. We know that insurance companies and businesses are going to be hit hard by the new regulation, resulting in more fees and less jobs. Now we find out that the "cost lowering" factor is a lie. Is there anything that congress told us that was true?

To The Young

There is a young woman I work with who likes to talk about being a liberal. I think her purported ideals actually have more to do with the rhetoric she’s been fed about being compassionate. She truly believes these distortions, to the point that she has even claimed that Nancy Pelosi is her hero. Unfortunately, I do not have the right to explain the truth to her. She’s not my daughter. I would object to other adults forcing politics on my children. But the emotions I have felt from loving her and loving my country are somewhat overwhelming. This post is for her. She won’t read it, but I need to say it anyway.

Let’s start out by saying that I know how intelligent you are. I know how frustrating it is when you get to the point in your life when you realize that your analytical abilities have gone beyond the place where you need to obey your parents. It’s not just a matter of rebellion. It is a matter of really knowing that those in authority cannot understand your perspective. It’s a matter of doing what is right for yourself and following your head instead of the hearts of those who love you. I have noticed how you avoid controversy because you do not enjoy confrontation and you are so certain of what you believe that you are not open to hearing what you consider to be parroted, insincere arguments that don’t actually counter your own convictions.

Because I understand all of this, I will not attempt to argue with you or try to change your mind by means of debate. You have had that and you are done with it. I will simply explain to you what is in my heart. You see, as I have watched the destruction of my country over the past year, you have been the saddest part for me. It’s not a matter of the progressive leadership. They know what they are doing. They are unapologetic and deviant. They are the foe that I can take on head first. They are the enemies of freedom and the destroyers of America…and they KNOW it.

You, on the other hand, aren’t selling principles for politics. You honestly believe in something and just happen to believe that the government is the only vehicle for achieving your beliefs. You are ignorant of back room politics, the trade off between freedom and security, and the prowess of power. You want to help people. You do not realize that freedom is the best way to help. You desire something more hands on. You don't see how vicious and hateful politicians truly are or the dangers of allowing them to trade favors for votes and power. You don't understand the corruption.

I know I cannot change your mind. I know that your naivety of the hatefulness of politics has to do with your good nature and your kind heart. I know because I have been there myself. I just wanted to do what was right and good and kind. Somehow, I don’t want to shatter your world view, even if I could. It’s nice to believe that there are no bad guys, just different perspectives.

Unfortunately, you cannot remain in this state of not understanding forever. The weak minded can stay in this state, but you cannot. Someday soon, your perspective is going to have to mature and one of two things is going to happen. Either you are going to see that “helping the poor” is really just “stealing the resources of the wealthy to keep the poor enslaved” and become an advocate of liberty, or you will follow the ideologues down the path where your politics will completely destroy your principles. You will find yourself making excuses for talking away people’s choices and soon you will be mired in the idea that you are superior to everyone else and must protect them from themselves. It’s an idea that was parroted by every tyrant in history.

I wish I could make you understand. But, I can’t. I have to let you have the same liberty I am defending for everyone. Since I can’t make you see the path ahead of you, I will simply have to keep loving you and praying that you will see the truth in the end.

Support YOUR Senator

I just want to state my support for Senator Jim Bunning. Thank goodness someone is willing to stand up for responsibility. I’m sad he’s not running for reelection. I would donate to his campaign. We've become so demanding and entitled as a society. It has to end before the financial collapse of our country.
